Aims and Objectives

There are three specific aims for this module:

  • To provide students with a knowledge of the core techniques of econometric analysis which forms the basis for the understanding and critical assessment of published work in empirical econometrics.
  • To develop the analytical skills required to demonstrate theoretical asymptotic properties of different econometric estimation and testing procedures under weakened modelling assumptions.
  • Introduction to time series model building and forecasting, in particular, the fitting and estimation of ARMA models.

On completing this module, the learning outcomes are such that students will be able to:

  • Show a solid understanding of and ability to critically assess published work in econometrics.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the theoretical asymptotic properties of various estimators and testing procedures.
  • Identify the appropriate techniques for large sample econometric modelling of economic time series data.
