Tutorial Programme

The module also consists of eleven weekly tutorial seminars. The tutorials will give students an opportunity to ask questions, exchange ideas and try out arguments with each other. Their usefulness is contingent upon the willingness of students to participate actively. Each tutorial session assumes that students understand the material from the previous lectures. Students are expected to come to each tutorial seminar well prepared.

In each tutorial, a number of students will be asked to do formal presentations that will be based on the required reading and in line with the major themes of each tutorial session. Presentations, which should last no longer than 10 minutes, should be coherently structured, analytical and argumentative. The main task of the presenter is to answer the set tutorial questions. In so ding, the presenter should identify debates and disagreements, indicate the most interesting approach, and explain the answers.

The presenter should prepare a handout (no more than one page of A4) for distribution to the class.

The circulated paper should end with at least one question arising from your topic that you think are interesting and needs to be discussed by the class.

Attendance of tutorial seminars is compulsory and a register will be kept. The module convenor will not repeat tutorial material and discussions to those who fail to attend.
