Objectives

As conducting a literature review to set the scene for your original investigation and making recommendations are part of the structure of all dissertations, they are not usually required as specific objectives, but this depends on the nature of your study.

  • These tell the reader what you will do to meet your aim.
  • It is better to have, say, four to six very clear and precise objectives than far more than you can realistically address.

Try and use phrases such as:

  • To describe ...
  • To measure ...
  • To compare ...

Again, do not indicate the methods by which you will meet the objectives.
