Interviews with the External Examiners
Any
of our Masters students may be asked to attend an interview with an External Examiner.
This is an essential part of the quality assurance process and moderation of
marks. If you cannot be available please
explain why not in writing.
Students selected for interview by the External Examiner will usually include those where Internal Examiners have not agreed on the outcome, are borderline distinctions or fails, or clear fails, and so will cover a range of outcomes.
- Each student selected for interview will be told why they have been asked to come in and timetabled for 30 minutes.
- The students selected will contacted by phone, WebCT and email as soon as possible.
- You may take your dissertation into the interview with you.
- You are not expected to make a formal presentation but will be expected to know your dissertation “inside out” and so be able to answer questions about, for example, the rationale, methods used, conduct, strengths and weaknesses and implications of what you have achieved.
- You may also be asked about the course as a whole and your views about aspects of it.
- It is not normal practice to offer practice interviews, but these may be requested from your supervisor, at his/her discretion.
