Dissertations are double marked independently by two Internal Examiners who will not have been involved to any great extent in your dissertation preparation. Should they disagree over the outcome of the assessment then an External Examiner is asked to moderate. 

You must get a distinction on both your dissertation and your taught course work to qualify for a Distinction for the course as a whole.
