Pre-Course 2

Autobiographies Wiki

It is important that you get to know your fellow students early on in the course. The sharing of autobiographies to the course wiki is intended to help you with this process. It will also introduce you to the use of a wiki.

Stage 1 – Drafting

Autobiographies can be written in many different ways and we do not want to dictate how you should approach yours. However, the intention is that you communicate to the reader (tutors and other group members) something of your background, experience and interests, without feeling that there is any pressure to share personal things that you want to remain private.

You can read some examples of autobiographies of international students by clicking on the following links:

Do not worry about layout or text enhancement when drafting. All you need do is to write the text on your computer, ready to be copied and pasted into the wiki, where you can deal with layout and enhancement. Between 500 and 1000 words would be an appropriate length.

So that we all know who's who when we are not together for the introductory, face-to-face part of the course, it will be helpful to have a recent photograph of yourself to include with your autobiography. This should be no larger than a maximum file size of 250 kb.

Stage 2 – The wiki

When you have completed your drafting, please create a page on the PGCEi Thailand 1 wiki. To do this, click on 'Web Links' in the 'Course Tools' menu of the WebCT course. Click on the link to the PGCEi Thailand 1 course wiki. This will open a page where you will 'request access' to the wiki. Do not try to log in as this system will not 'recognise' you yet. Please supply your university email address for the reply.

Please note: depending on when you request access, there may be a delay as the approval is done by a real person in response to an email alert, but we will be checking as regularly as we can! You should get a reply within 24 hours.

When you have been given access to the wiki you should consult the pgcethailand1 'FrontPage' where you will find instructions for what to do in order to set up your autobiography page (remember that, as this is a wiki, you can edit it in the future if wished).

When you have completed your page, you should read some of the autobiographies of the other members of your cohort and you might want to comment, for instance where you find points of mutual interest and overlap.
