Activity 5

School Behaviour Policy

Where interpretations of acceptable and unacceptable behaviour vary from classroom to classroom, pupils can become confused.

REFLECT: How far does your own view of acceptable behaviour coincide with that of your school's? What is the importance of the influence of whole school expectations on behavioural expectations in individual classrooms?

RESEARCH: Collect all of the printed and published information in your school which relates to the management of classroom behaviour.

WRITE: On the discussion board, write a summary of your own school's policy on behaviour. Then read the summary written by a teacher from another school. To what extent is there overlap? What are the proactive and reactive elements of each policy? How do the policies link to the schools' policies on learning? Write to a teacher in another school about your own thoughts on the issue of consistency in behaviour management.
