Activity 2

"Internalised Planning"

It can sometimes appear that experienced teachers do not need to plan in as much detail as beginning teachers.

Kyriacou says that "experienced teachers more often rely on their extensive experience to form a mental framework of how they want the lesson to proceed" and that their plans "have become internalised through repetition" (Kyriacou 1991, page 17).

INTERVIEW: Interview one or two experienced teachers in your own school and ask them how their approaches to planning have changed over the course of their careers. Ask them whether they are happy with their own current levels of planning.

WRITE: List the key points from the interview.
